Recovery

2020: REBUILDING a Florida that works for OUR neighbors & OUR local businesses.

  • This summer, I voted for a special session to fix DeSantis’ unemployment system so that people who are out of work can get paid what they are owed. While the system is moving again, our neighbors have still not been paid and the system grinds to a near-halt during critical moments. Both the workers who are claiming and the businesses who paid into this system deserve better.

  • Our small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy in District 69 and throughout Florida, I’ll champion a recovery that centers small and micro-businesses. Florida Bridge Loan Program, Visit Florida, Enterprise Florida have all been vehicles to help local businesses in the past. After years of divestment by the Majority Party, our local businesses have few places to turn for help during crisis, yet the bills keep coming. This must change.

  • I’ll fight to put people to work fixing critical infrastructure needs and to help our neighbors retool their skills during this downturn. I have experience connecting under- and un-employed workers to industries looking to hire. Now’s the time to invest in creating career and technical training. Now’s the time to invest our families’ futures.

All of our families deserve the dignity of the pay that comes with a job well done. I’ve been standing strong with our hard working neighbors and small business owners since elected. My record shows that you can count on me to continue putting you first.

In addition to striving to achieve an environment that is good for workers and an economy that is good for business, I proudly:

  • Passed legislation to expand career and technical education and tie this training to jobs available in our Tampa Bay area (2019).

  • Passed legislation to protect (1) consumers’ pocketbooks, while expanding the home warranty industry in Florida (2019), and (2) residents’ abilities to rebuild if their condos are destroyed during a storm (2020).

  • Cosponsored Firefighter Cancer Presumption Bill, which was signed into law (2019), and the Paid Family Leave Act, which did not make it through committees (2020).

  • Cosponsored legislation to: (1) fund Visit Florida and keep it from being abolished; (2) level the playing field between hotels/motels and STVRs, and (3) study blockchain technology.

  • Voted for the Budget to fully funded the Sadowski Fund for affordable housing.

  • Voted to give our businesses a break by reducing business rental tax by .2%, and to hold the insurance premiums steady through voting for Assignment of Benefits reform.

  • Spearheaded a bipartisan group to defeat a bill to expand predatory lending.

  • Voted to shore up our infrastructure by (1) under-grounding utilities, (2) investing in regional and local transportation/transit, and (3) expanding 5G Network.
