And, I did just that. In fact, my first vote of my first session was to support our Mayors by voting for a Resolution to Ban Offshore Drilling. Also, I was proud to:

  • Secure $2.4 million in funding for district infrastructure projects, and advocate successfully for $35 million for DEP to distribute for septic-to-sewer conversions and leaky lateral replacement projects.

  • Negotiate a comprehensive Derelict Vessel Bill with stakeholders that would protect our environment, waterways, and property. This bill made it through the house amended to the Transportation Package, but stalled in the Senate. We will get it done next year.

  • Pass the Leaky Lateral Sewage Line Bill as an amendment to the Anti-Pollution Bill with Senator Brandes.

  • Cosponsor: (1) Anti-Fracking Bill, (2) Florida’s Climate Resiliency Research Program, and (3) Red Tide Mitigation and Tech. Development Bill. Red Tide Bill was signed into law in 2019.

  • Craft a School Solar Bill so schools could save money on their electricity bills and redirect this money back into the classrooms. I am grateful for School Board Member Nicole Carr who first came to me with this policy problem. Although this policy made it through the House, it stalled in the Senate. Next year, this bill will pass.

Now's the Time

Today, OUR Home is tied to OUR Recovery

Now’s the time to put people to work making solid wages by fixing our infrastructure and implementing innovative solutions in our local communities to protect our water ways and drinking water, and to do our part to increase use of alternative energy sources.

Now’s the time to install solar and other green technologies that will save tax payer dollars over the long haul, and put people to work in the process.

Now’s the time to renourish our beaches and prepare for the tourists who will stream to our shores once we weather this storm.

Now’s the time to offer incentives to help local businesses survive by creating healthy and green environments to protect their clients and save them money.

Now’s the time to be vigilant against off-shore drilling and fracking. The federal government has been threatening our waters, we must stand strong and united.

Now’s the time to take a sustained look at sea level rise. Our ability to hold onto our military assets and the associated industry and jobs depends upon implementing solid solutions.
